PRIORY CHURCH BELL RINGERS “A-PEEL” FOR NEW MEMBERS

The Priory church bell ringers have launched an appeal for new people to join their team.

One of the most joyous sounds you can hear in Bridlington has to be the sound of the Priory Church bells.

The eight bells of Bridlington’s beautiful Priory have been ringing out for over 120 years but sadly due to dwindling numbers the delightful sound is in jepordy so an appeal has been launched to recruit new people to join the existing team of ‘Ringers’.

The Tower captain of the Bridlington Priory Bell ringers, Roger Fozzard, in a recent interview told Bridlington Gold Radio’s Breakfast Show presenter Mike Hammond all about the bells, their history and how, due to the age and strength of the current team, it is important that new people need to be found to boost the numbers and to ensure that the sound of the Priory church bells continues to herald the church services, weddings, and occasionally, even funerals well into the future.

When asked what he was looking for in a new ringer Roger said that anybody with a willingness to learn would be perfect, he went on to say that no experience is necessary as full tuition and support would be given.

The Priory bell ringers practice every Tuesday evening at the church and anyone who is interested in finding out more should give Roger a call on Bridlington 604 398.
