The Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has announced that the whole of England has been placed into Lockdown, due to a dramatic rise in COVID-19 cases.
The Lockdown will be similar to the one we had in March of last year, with people being asked to stay at home and schools to close to the majority of pupils.
The new Lockdown rules will come into force as of midnight tonight (Monday 4th January 2021).
The Prime Minister has said that the country’s collective efforts were working, and would have continued to do so, but the new variant of COVID-19 is both frustrating and alarming, especially the speed, it is spreading, which is thought to be between 50 and 70 percent more quickly.
Hospitals are now under more pressure from COVID-19, than at anytime since the pandemic began.
During his announcement, the Prime Minister went onto stress that now, more than ever, we must pull together and follow the new rules.
In closing he said “we must once again STAY AT HOME , PROTECT THE NHS AND SAVE LIVES”
