MAMMOTH EFFORT ONBOARD THE “POPPY EXPRESS” RAISES THOUSANDS FOR THE BRIDLINGTON POPPY APPEAL

A group of Bridlington veterans with the help of the Bridlington Poppy appeal organiser Simon Riddlesworth, L.N.E.R. and Hull Trains, carried out nine return journeys from York to London’s Kings Cross and Doncaster stations, selling Poppys to passengers, and in doing so raised over £10,000 for the Bridlington Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

The group comprising of veterans and family members included; Denis Scaife his wife Barbara, Martin Jolly and Bill McGuiness.

Denis had the following to say to Bridlington Gold, “This is my seventh year organising the “Poppy Express” and although it is quite exhausting I wouldn’t miss it for anything”, Denis went on to thank all the helpers, supporters, train company staff and all the members of the public who gave so generously.
