No one is more delighted than designer/maker Mary Matthews to be back in Bridlington to exhibit her work at Bridlington Old Town Gallery & Information Point.
Her original exhibition opened in March 2020 but quickly fell victim to the lockdown. Now her collection of creative canvasses, cushions and tea towels will be on display from 2nd to 31st August.
Mary has been inspired by the beauty of the Yorkshire coast, her local countryside and her own garden in Barnsley.
When creating her work Mary mixes vintage, recycled and designer fabric with needlework and haberdashery, as well as objects found on her many trips to the coast.
Her coastal- inspired works combine sun-bleached seaside colours or vibrant nautical stripes with favourite motifs from sailing, fishing and days on the beach. They often include quirky sayings that reflect our illustrious seafaring history and love of the sea.
She has created four new panels especially for the exhibition which explore the idea of Bridlington as a ‘seaside delight’ using strong patterns and colour blocks in a multitude of shades of green and blue to capture the ever- changing elements of the sea and the shore.
Mary will be at the Old Town Gallery for a ‘Meet the artist’ event from 1pm on Saturday 6th August, to chat about her work and all are welcome
