COUNCIL CLOSURE ORDER SERVED ON BRIDLINGTON PROPERTY

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has obtained a full closure order on a property in Bridlington following reports of antisocial behaviour and criminal activity.

The full closure order was granted by Beverley magistrates on Friday, 11 October against 5 Pinfold Street, a ground floor flat owned by East Riding council.

The order means no one can enter the property for three months except for officers from the council, police, other emergency services or utility providers.

Anyone else who enters or stays on the premises without reasonable excuse can be fined, imprisoned or both.

Beverley Magistrates’ Court heard officers from the council’s antisocial behaviour team received complaints regarding antisocial behaviour at the property, including drug dealing and consumption, and disruptive noise.

Activity at this property had negatively affected the mental and physical health of nearby residents and made some afraid to leave their homes.

Accordingly, the council sought a full closure order to protect the local community and prevent further harms.

Nigel Brignall, manager of the anti-social behaviour team at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “We take antisocial behaviour seriously and will take stringent action to protect local communities.

“The antisocial behaviour officer was commended by magistrates for a thorough assessment of the individual in question’s behaviour, and identifying the need to protect and support residents affected by activity at this property.”
