A man from Bridlington has been prosecuted in court after waste was dumped in the countryside at Carnaby.
A child’s rocking horse, furniture and other household items were left on a bridleway in Carnaby in January last year.
Ben Johnson of Gypsey Road, Bridlington, pleaded guilty to failing in his duty of care to make sure his waste was disposed of legally, when he appeared at Beverley Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 5 March.
He was given credit for his guilty plea. He was fined £40 and was ordered to pay £353.92 costs and a £16 victim surcharge.
The court heard the rocking horse, furniture and other waste was found on the Carnaby bridleway on 15 January last year.
An investigation by streetscene enforcement officers from East Riding of Yorkshire Council found evidence relating to Johnson’s address.
Residents are responsible for disposing of their own waste properly and legally by using household wheelie bins provided or by taking larger items of waste to their local household waste recycling site.
Carl Skelton, director of streetscene services at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “Householders have a duty of care to make sure their waste is disposed of responsibly and legally.
“There are plenty of easy ways provided for people to do that.”
