BRIDLINGTON LIB DEM COUNCILLOR CONDUCTS SURVEY ABOUT LOCAL HEALTH CARE SERVICES

The state of Bridlington Health Care Services are “shocking”, says Bridlington Lib Dem Councillor Mike Heslop-Mullens.

Mike made the comments after conducting a Survey of residents in Bridlington North area.

He posted surveys through residents doors and has so far received 142 replies.

Mike said: “There is high levels of dissatisfaction with GP services with many residents only getting phone appointments. People are asking why the GP’s are not returning to their surgeries.

The NHS dentistry service seems to have disappeared with many residents forced to go private but in some cases they can’t afford to do it.

The Survey again shows that residents want a proper functioning A&E at Bridlington Hospital. It is disgraceful that we have a near-empty hospital on our doorstep and yet  patients are being forced to travel around Yorkshire to get treatment. The Conservatives promised that they would return the A&E before the 2010 Election. Twelve years later we see no signs of it being returned.”

As a follow-up to his Survey, Mike Heslop-Mullens put forward a Motion to East Riding Full Council meeting on Wednesday June 22nd which stated:

“That this Council:

  1. Notes with concern that access to GP’s and NHS Dentists appears to be worsening for our residents and is at an unacceptable level.

2. Lobbies the relevant bodies to improve these vital services

3. Writes to the Government and local MP’s expressing our concern at the erosion of these important local services.”

In moving the Motion, Mike drew attention to his residents concerns about lack of access to GP Services, dentistry and the continuing loss of A&E at Bridlington Hospital.

The Motion was passed with all-party support.
