Councillor, Mike Heslop-Mullens, was delighted to welcome the recent award of £203,975 of lottery funding which will allow Holderness Area Rural Transport to provide community transport from Bridlington to Scarborough and Hull for patients needing to attend hospital.
Councillor Heslop-Mullens said:
“I have been campaigning for better services at Bridlington Hospital since my election in 2019, and am pleased that this has secured the future of our existing service for the next three years, but it does not offset the need to give Bridlington, the hospital that local people need and deserve.”
He went onto say:
“Community Transport has been a vital service throughout the East Riding especially during the last few months when residents have had to travel to vaccine centres.”
“Having raised the need for funding at the last two budget meetings, as this service is not an extra benefit, but a fundamental need in this area. Hopefully the East Riding of Yorkshire Council will now realise this and include a figure in future budgets and protect this vital service.”
