A partial closure order has been issued for an address in Bridlington which has been the scene of anti-social behaviour, drug and alcohol misuse and serious nuisance to neighbours.
A three-month order for 179 Burstall Hill, Bridlington, was granted to officers from the anti-social behaviour team at East Riding of Yorkshire Council at Beverley Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 2nd May, with immediate effect.
The court heard there had been numerous reports at the council-owned rented property of ongoing disorderly and offensive behaviour, drug and alcohol misuse, loud noise until the early hours and serious nuisance, causing nearby residents to fear for their safety.
There have also been concerns about damage being caused to the property and waste dumped in communal areas.
The address has been the subject of a police warrant, several warning letters and a Community Protection Notice Warning from the council.
Under the terms of the order, only the current registered council tenant and council officers will be allowed inside the property at any time, 24 hours a day.
Anyone else inside the property will be breaching the order and be liable to arrest. If convicted, they could receive a custodial sentence, an unlimited fine or both.
Nigel Brignall, anti-social behaviour team manager at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “Residents living near this property have had to suffer serious nuisance and disorder on a regular basis, sometimes into the early hours, which has made their lives a misery.
“We feel this order is necessary to prevent this behaviour from continuing, to protect those living nearby and ensure their quality of life returns to a good standard.
“I hope this partial closure order goes some way towards letting residents know the council takes this kind of anti-social behaviour seriously and it will not be tolerated.”
* If anyone other than council employees (and contractors) and the current tenant are in the property they will be committing an offence and should be reported to Humberside Police by calling 999 immediately.
