ARMED FORCES VETERANS RAISE FUNDS FOR MAYORS CHARITY

The Bridlington branch of the ‘Armed Forces Veterans Breakfast Club’ have raised £640 for the Mayors Charity Fund.

Bridlington Mayor, Councillor Liam Dealtry said “I would like to say a massive thank you to the Bridlington Veterans who have raised a staggering amount of money for my Mayoral Charity Fund. The fact that the money was raised, during lockdown, by virtual raffles and other things, is an amazing achievement.

All the money raised will be given to ‘Bridlington SSAFA’ and used to support other local armed forces veterans.”

Speaking on Bridlington Gold, Mike Rubery, who runs the Bridlington branch of the ‘Armed Forces Breakfast Club’, explained that the clubs were originally set up by an ex soldier from Hull and the Bridlington branch has been running for approximately 4 years. The club meets at 10am on the first Saturday of every month at Richie’s Cafe-bar on the South Beach in Bridlington and provides somewhere, where both Veterans and serving members of the armed forces can meet socially. They also have regular coffee mornings and organise fundraising activities for local charities.
